The intellectual elite in Japan really digs kabuki (traditional theatre). Matthew and I were now prepared to indulge in some hard-core culture ourselves. We were kind of suspicious when two other Americans gave us their tickets for free after they'd seen only the first act. When we'd seen the second one, we understood why. Nothing AT ALL happens in those plays! Twelve traditionally attired men sit next to each other on the stage and mutter something incomprehensible, sometimes raising their voices in a very irritating, girlish kind of way. So we also chose to skip the next acts.
